WELCOME TO BRADLEY’S QUALITY DRY CLEANING
EXPERTS IN TEXTILES SINCE 1912

2012 marks the 100th year of Bradleys expertise in the textile and textile aftercare trade and since being founded in 1912 by my Grandfather Bernard Bradley, much has changed in this field, (and in the world in general of course). We still operate under the ethos that Bernard Bradley set the company up with “Do Unto Others As You Would Be Done By” which in modern English translates as treating others as you would like to be treated something we still hold dear to our hearts. We treat all of our customers with respect as individuals and never take your custom for granted.

Although dry cleaning shops are a relatively new phenomenon, mainly coming into existence from the late 1950s onwards, the actual process of cleaning garments using spirit based products has been around since at least the 1800s. When Bradleys was founded in 1912 it was as a design house, manufacturer and supplier of fine ladies gowns, evening wear and coats. When the seasons ended, the owners of these items would send their previous seasons wardrobe of clothing to Bradleys to be re-designed /repaired / altered/ cleaned and pressed as necessary ready for the next season. It was not unusual to have a line of chauffeur driven motor cars unloading treasured garments outside for our attention. In the lead up to the First World War, Bradleys were also requested to supply military uniforms for the British Armed forces, and were proud to do so. Most of the officer’s uniforms were paid for by the individual officers themselves and those of a senior rank would often spend whatever it cost to get their uniforms tailored for fit and comfort with various non-standard tweaks here and there. In fact we still have a record of a member of the Senior Service (Royal Navy) at that time who had some personal alterations carried out to his uniform at today’s equivalent cost of over £300.00. (Bernard Bradley held a commission in a London Cavalry Regiment – but of course he supplied his own uniform!!!)

Our handed down expertise means that we are never afraid to tackle items that most high street dry cleaners won’t. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to cleaning your garments, be they mass produced or bespoke. Being an independent business with a time served experienced team with knowledge gained over the decades mean that we can design an appropriate cleaning process for your items, and they can be left with us with confidence. It is this experience that means that we do clean boots made by Ugg, Elk and Timberland. We can clean your favourite satin shoes and handbag as well as the dress itself. Our cleaning processes are not just restricted to items of clothing, as well as soft furnishings and curtains, we can clean tapestries, even old fragile ones.

We look forward to providing you with our good old fashioned service, without compromise at our branches.

Sincerely
Howard Bradley
